Which birth control method do you like best? Which do you dislike the most?

I'm thinking of switching methods but not too sure which I'd like. I've done research and would now like some opinions!

Thank You.

Which birth control method do you like best? Which do you dislike the most?
I like the ring the best because you put it in for a month and then forget it, and i dislike the pill the most because i can't ever remember to take it.
Reply:I'm not on any birth control. I monitor my cycles and my husband does the "pull out" method most of the time. We have fun with it, so he doesn't mind, and I like the freedom of not taking anything.

I dont' have to worry about "correcting my cycle" before getting pregnant, I don't have to worry about side effects, or struggling to get pregnant because my body isn't used to the lack of birth control, and its really easy to learn.

Once you're off birth control for awhile, you learn your cycle really well and its very easy to tell the safe zone, from the danger zone. :)
Reply:I am on the pill, and I prefer it to others because I think it's the easiest and because I feel more comfortable with something that I control, as opposed to other methods such as the shot or ring that you have to rely on your doctor for.

I've never been on the shot, but I know 4 people who switched to the shot and became pregnant unexpectedly after 6-8 months. I know the shot is supposed to be just as effective as other methods, but I would be hesitant to use it.
Reply:It really just depends on you--what works best with your body, your schedule, how soon you want to have children (if at all); basically your lifestyle in general.

I've used the ring and the pill. Both are perfectly fine for me. To be honest I preferred the ring because I didn't have to remember to take a pill everyday but it got really expensive and the pill is very cheap.
Reply:I like the shot because I don't have to remember to take the pill everyday but I don't like the pill because it made me gain weight and I couldn't remember to take it everyday.
Reply:birth control pills made me very sick to my stomach to the point I couldnt sleep at night, very very emotional and very very very depressed

so stopped taking them after 2 weeks of trying to deal with it all

the shots u can get...heard too many girls gained over 20lbs so no thanks....

the seasonale u can take for only having 4 periods a yr doctors found out its a HORRIBLE idea for ur body...do ur reseach...anyhow

SO....................

so my huney and I ALWAYS use condom...both of us discussed not ready to have kids and if either of want some must wear one...if dont have any then hes going to the shower....

What do you need to know to tell me the best savings method?

Hi, I'm trying to work out what's the best savings method - mini ISA, types of shares etc. I know that this depends a lot on the individual's situation.

For those who are perhaps a bit more finance savvy than the rest of us - can you give me a list of things it depends ON, e.g. tax rate, my age, how quick I need to be able to take money out etc. This way I can do the research that will give me a more pertinent answer. I'm saving for a house deposit.

Thank you in advance.

What do you need to know to tell me the best savings method?
There are steps to investing.

The first stair is to remove debt (target 30% of your income to reduce your debt)

The next stair is saving (target 10% of your income to go toward savings)

Once you have 3 to 6 months in savings... you can move to investing.

Note: Once your debt is paid off, start savin gor investing the 30%.

Other notes... All raises should have % going to savings or debt (bonuses too - I you are so lucky :))
Reply:How much can you save per paycheck? How often are you paid?

What is the current cost of a starter home in your area?

What other savings/investments do you already have?

Your job and current salary and expected (likely) salary increase year on year for the next 10 years.

Age - nearly irrelvant at this stage

Tax rate - ditto

Really you need to sit down with a financial advisor and work out if saving for a house deposit is actually priority No1 right now. Houses cost way more than you might think to maintain and there is a protracted slump coming (US %26amp; UK) so the rush is probably off for now.

What does "are there any limitations in the conceptualization of key concepts" mean??

this is for a introductory research methods course and i dont understand the question. the first part of the question asked for the major concepts in the article.

What does "are there any limitations in the conceptualization of key concepts" mean??
Lol... whoever wrote that sentence ought to be shot .... Conceptualizing concepts... rofl

Anyway.. What he/she wants to know is basically what's called the "next question". The first question asked what the major concepts of the article were. Now, he/she wants to know whether those concepts make sense. If they don't, why not. That's what is meant by limitations in the conceptualisation.

To rephrase it, one could say: Are there limits or barriers to implementing those key ideas.
Reply:Limitation meaning what is like wrong or limited in the article. For example, if the major concepts of the article was about the, let's say, a speech a colonist was making about the boston tea party during the 1770's, and how it was so tragic for the colonists- then the limitations would be that the point of view of the british is not present in the article (it is only limited to the viewpoint of the colonists). Basically, what is the article lacking?

If we were to use a fairly strict alpha, what happens to beta and why? (statistical analysis question)?

This is an inferential Data analysis question for my Research methods class in Exercise Sport Science.

If we were to use a fairly strict alpha, what happens to beta and why? (statistical analysis question)?
By a "strict" alpha, I assume that you mean that alpha is small. This will then make beta bigger. alpha and beta have an inverse relationship; if you lower alpha you raise beta, and if you raise alpha you lower beta.

alpha is a number that you can set; beta is not. If a type I error is worse than a type II error, then you should make alpha smaller. But if a type II error is worse, then you should make alpha larger.
Reply:I started to write explanations to you but i found a web site that will help you much better. The errors are explained here in detail and the applet shows them graphically.

What are new technologies of measuring time?

for a physics assignmnet we were asked to research new ways of telling/measuring time. it can be any methods that are brand new, or currently being developed. (like how scientists are developing ways to measure the half lives of isotopes, etc)

i have no idea where to find information on this, so any help/input would be great.

What are new technologies of measuring time?
atomic clocks are a relatively new technology in comparison with others.

An atomic clock is a type of clock that uses an atomic resonance frequency standard to feed its counter. Early atomic clocks were masers with attached equipment. Today's best atomic frequency standards are based on absorption spectroscopy of cold atoms in atomic fountains. National standards agencies maintain an accuracy of nanoseconds

(10^-9) seconds

I found an article on a more modern clock that is accurate to below the degree of the picosecond:

Clock Technology enables sub-picosecond accurate signals.

June 9, 2006 - RotaryWave(TM) on-chip clock technology enables semiconductors to achieve optimal performance by delivering high-resolution, low-noise timing signals with minimal power. Without requiring any manufacturing changes for implementation, it works on all existing manufacturing processes and technologies. Clock scales with advanced processes, utilizes Mobius timing generator, and exhibits tolerance to substrate, power supply, and radiated noise.

However, this is to do with clocks that control timing of complicated circuits like the CPU of a computer system, etc, so they do not tell time as a clock on the wall does, but they do break time down into much smaller pieces so that electronic technology can run to a high degree of precision.

Is parakeet training related to Life Science?

O.k. so I'm doing a Science fair project and I'm wondering Is my research question in any way related to science this is my Research question:

Can a parakeet be trained to preform dog commands using bird training methods?

I know it's a stupid question but my science teacher says its ok

And could i get some tips on presenting my project.

Here is my Final Draft:

Is parakeet training related to Life Science?
That sounds like an interesting and fun experiment! Just remember that training any type of pet/animal takes lots of time, patience and energy and you likely won't see immediate results. Just stick with it and good luck with your project!
Reply:Do you have a dog?

Do you, or can you get a parakeet?

Parakeet training takes a long time.

If you have a dog and parakeet then bring the dog and parakeet to school. Bring the keet in his cage and the dog in his kennel. Have the dog preform 3 tricks a parakeet is also physically able to do. Then bring the keet out and put the dog back in his kennel. Do the same with the keet.

How I can protect my new business model and concept?

Business methods are patentable and searchable on the USPTO's website. But there are several problems with it:

1) If a new business method is patented, how can one enforce it if the patent holder has limited financial resources.

2) It appears to be difficult to research if a new business idea is infriniging on an existing patent.

The bottom line is: how can one protect a new business idea?

How I can protect my new business model and concept?
registrate it legally
Reply:It is not possible to protect ideas but rather the representation of that idea. Without knowing further, it's hard to say what would be your best route. Here's some information on the different branches of intellectual property -- after reading, you'll probably be able to decide what the best route is...

PATENTS:

To protect an original invention OR a significant improvement to an existing product, a patent would be filed. Here's the USPTO's definition: http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/pac/doc...

TRADEMARKS:

Trademarks can be names of products or services, logos, slogans, packaging and even sounds and smells. In essence, a trademark can be almost anything that is used to identify a particular product or service. Registering a trademark grants the owner exclusive rights to the mark within the specified industry.

COPYRIGHTS:

Copyrights can be obtained for things of an artistic nature. This includes, of course, poetry, films, sculptures, music, fiction, etc. But can also include things that may not necessarily seem "artistic" in the general sense of the word. Copyrights can also be obtained for advertising copy, games, software programs and blueprints, to name just a few.

Has anyone had plastic surgery on their face to remove a cyst or mole?

I need details about options for removing a benign mole from my cheek. My research so far shows that there is no method that doesn't involve some risk of scarring.

Has anyone had plastic surgery on their face to remove a cyst or mole?
My cousin had some facial cysts removed and they turned out to be a lot bigger than expected. She had to have a fat transplant from her leg to her face to fill the hole. Considering all the pulling around she had the result was great. I know where the scar is and I can hardly see it. If you didn't know it was there you wouldn't see it! Plastic surgeons can do an excellent job and scarring is minimised;
Reply:As for details not sure what your looking for , but i had a benign lump removed from under my right cheek close to my chin several yrs ago and for a few months there was some light scarring but shortly thereafter you could not tell and to this day it is not visible, had it done by a plastic surgeon who i would go back to if need be.. good luck but don't worry too much i think you'd be fine and happy about the results
Reply:Your research is right. There is no method to remove the mole that wont leave scarring. You can always try a plastic surgeon, they do that stuff all the time.

What dreadlock hair products (cleansing) do you reccommend? What method of dreadlocks works for you the most?

I have always like dreadlocks and have known people who had them. I really like the look and I have heard many ways on the method to starting them. I want to grow my hair out longer than it is (around 4 inches past shoulder) before I do them myself but I also want to research more about them.

I'm sorry but, dreadlocks are not attractive. Plus, your hair looks dirty all the time. Do you really want that?

Embryonic stem cell research in nearly ten years hasn't turned up any cure.?

after nine years and billions of dollars with little or no results, do you think it is time to stop destroying embryos ( killing babies) and focus on other methods. I am not saying I am against stem cell research, but only if the stem cells come from a method that do not destroy an embryo. i.e. adult, cord blood, amneotic fluid, or other measures that do not involve destroying embryos. By the way this is basiclly the same stance our president takes on the issue for all of you who think he just wants to kill the whole program.

Embryonic stem cell research in nearly ten years hasn't turned up any cure.?
And it won't be used for any "cures" either. Adult stem cell research is the only body of science that has published case studies of actual applied benefit to it. Why would you want the stem cell of another person implanted in your brain or spine, if you have a neurological condition, when you would then have to take anti-rejection meds for the rest of your life? Stem cells can be harvested from your sinuses, and re-implanted elsewhere in your body. It is being done now with documented therapeutic benefit.

Way to pay for nursing school?

I am applying for nursing school in January so I have been researching payment methods. Someone told me that some hospitals offer contracts where you agree to work for them for so many years after you graduate and they will pay for your schooling. Has anyone else heard of this? That would be great if it was true, but I have searched through several different hospital sites and cannot find anyone that offers this. I worked for a small hospital once and they offered to pay for schooling if you worked there, not if you planned on it later. I know the smart thing to do would be to go back to my job at the hospital but I just CANNOT stand desk work!

Any leads into this would be great help. Also, if you have done something like this, do they pay just as equally as if they had not paid for your schooling, or do they start you lower than average? I would be graduating with a BSN and I'm located in South Texas if that is of any help.

Thanks in advance.

Way to pay for nursing school?
Those hospital programs usually only provide money when you're in your last two years of nursing school (clinical time). You then sign a contract agreeing to work for them for x amount of years. In the event you fail out of nursing school, you will be obligated to pay the money back to them. You will be paid the same as any entry level nurse in that facility, although it may provide to be more difficult to get the specialty or floor that you want to do. ROTC programs also cover full tuition, books, and stipend, if you don't mind the commitment to the military.
Reply:I have heard about what you are refering to. One of my best friends from high school (Springfield, MO) entered a program like this. I believe she started at the hospital as a nursing assistant and the hospital paid for her to go through nursing school. I also know a woman who is has her LPN license and is working at a hopspital part-time while she works on her RN license. The hospital is also helping with her tuition. She lives in Louisville, KY.

You may also want to check into The Student Loan People. I'm not sure if they offer loans in TX, but in KY they have programs for nurses where they will reduce you student loan debt by 20% for every year you work in the field. Check it out at studentloanpeople.org. Good luck!

What is the most promising, groundbreaking potential cure for paralysis?

The conventional wisdom has been that once someone severs or damages their spinal cord, related nerves or areas of the brain leading to paralysis or being either quadriplegic or parapalegic, that there is no cure to reverse such fully.

I know there are ways of curing, healing and fully reversing such conditions, even if not commonly or fully discovered yet. And Id love to hear what new, or old and rediscovered, methods or ways of reversing and heaing these conditions are currently the most promising!?

Anyone involved in these areas of research, especially that not manipulated or manipulated by preferences and biases of pharmaceutical companies or overly entrenched modes of thinking, who can share what seems to be the most promising directions for fully reversing and healing people who have become paralyzed through accidents, strokes or other events.?

What is the most promising, groundbreaking potential cure for paralysis?
Indeed there is a cure, we're just in the stages of finding all the pieces of the puzzle. An effective cure is going to be a combination of three things: preventing/removing the formation of scar tissue, getting the nerves to reproduce the proper connections, and rigorous physical therapy.

One of the most promising studies so far is that of Dr. Stephen Davies. ( see http://www.brainandspinalcord.org/blog/2... ) There is also some information there about Peripheral Nerve Re-Routing, which is not quite a cure, but has proven very effective in regaining function of paralyzed areas of the body due to SCI.

In terms of paralysis caused by stroke or TBI, the treatment will be dealing with the brain rather than the spinal cord. Interestingly, there are many treatments for both brain injury and spinal cord injury that are similar. For instance, Lithium, an anti-psychotic drug, has also been proven effective in preventing much secondary injury after a SCI.

I would suggest poking around on the website ( http://www.brainandspinalcord.org ) for links to all the most important goings on in the field of neurological injury. Check back often too, as we update regularly!
Reply:Stem cells

Also-some people swear by the fact that a patient can be put in an ice bath immediatley post stroke or spinal cord injury to greatly lessen the damage. Most of the time it is the swelling that causes the most long term damage.

Never underestimate the power of rehabilitation. It makes a great deal of difference to have a physical therapist that is experienced and active in a particular area of injury.

This is not magically healing the person, but effectively dealing with the reality of the injury.

A person with a C6 SCI has the potential to live independently.
Reply:Stem cell research and all it has to offer. For instance,

The men and women coming home from overseas with very hurtful injuries, this could save their lives and lives of many, many others.

Everything that you just described can be helped by stem cell research.

The pharmaceutical companies--don't get me started. They advertise and advertise. If I was a lonely person sitting at home with some sort of ache, I'd think I was dying. OH!! And don't forget the side effects!!! If I have heartburn, I could have diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, muscle cramps and (I love this one!) and/or death. Thank you very much, I'll put up with the damn heartburn.

I could go on and on, a book even, but that's the jist of it.
Reply:A person can demand that their paralysis be cured!

What is qualitative marketing research? What is quantitative marketing reasearch? example please!?

cont.... please provide at least one example each.

What are the limitations of each?

Which method is the 'best' for solving marketing problems today? thx¬!

What is qualitative marketing research? What is quantitative marketing reasearch? example please!?
Qualitative market research methods include focus groups, in depth interviews and ethnographic (observational) research. They are used to get an general understanding of a marketing issue. The benefits are that they are usually less expensive, are flexible by allowing you to change the questions on the fly, and often uncover deeper issues that were previously unknown. The main limitation is that due to the small sample size they are not projectable to a larger population so any resulting hypotheses need to be tested quantitatively.

Quantitative methods usually mean surveys or other ways of gathering data on a large group, like analyzing retail scanner records. They allow you to make statistically projectable statements (e.g. 62% of our target consumers prefer package A) that you can't through qualitative methods. Another advantage is that advanced statistical techniques (e.g. regression) can be used in the analysis. The limitations are the opposite of the qualitative benefits: higher cost, inflexibility, and you can't uncover issues that you don't know about beforehand.

The best practices for market research is a combination of both, especially if you are entering a new market or segment. Use qualitative research for an initial understanding of the market and issues, then follow up with a quantitative survey to verify the results among a reliable sample.
Reply:Qualitative data: words, letters etc. NOT NUMBERS. (open questions, or gender, month of birth)

Quantitative data: numbers. (ranking questions, age questions, height etc.)

Limitations: qualitative: cannot be averaged.

quantitative: is limited in what it can show and be expressed through it.

For solving marketing problems, depends what the problem is. normally a combo of both, but quantitative if its a direct product problem.
Reply:Qualitiative is to do with quality - more like opinions and likes and dislikes, thoughts and feelings. For example you could interview people to see what they think of products or services. A limitation is the results take a long time to write up because all answers are different, so you have to make a summary of the main issues you discovered overall. There is no fixed measurement. But it is very effective at uncovering the underlying cause and effect issues. You may find answers you never predicted to have anything to do with it, but turn out to be the "gems" - key issues.

Quantitative is measurable data. i.e. you could get people to tick boxes as to whether they were satisfied or dissatisfied with a product or service. This is easier to analyse, just count how many people ticked which box. The limitation is that don't get to discover why people felt that way, you only get the data and you could miss the underlying issues people have. You also miss out on discovering issues you may not have considered - because you never made a tick box for that answer. But it is quick %26amp; easy.

I have heard repeatedly that much of the facts about pack behavior in dogs were actually false. Is this true?

I have read that decades ago, some scientists did some research of pack behavior in wolves, and started applying it to the domesticated dog, but many of the methods were disproved.

What are these methods?

I have heard repeatedly that much of the facts about pack behavior in dogs were actually false. Is this true?
I'm not sure about the research you are talking to, but it cracks me up when people start chastising those who believe in the pack theory and practice it with their dogs because it's *mean*- but I'll tell you one thing, I see a TON of dogs come and go on a daily basis- between owning a dogwash, doing obedience/agility/conformation- and then just the ones I see in public- I'll tell you something- the people who practice some sort of pack dynamics have happier, healthier, better behaved dogs than the idiots who claim it's *mean*

Dogs are social animals, and ANY animal (from ants, to dogs, to humans)- must have some sort of "order" in their lives- someone is in charge- (the queen in the ant colony, the presidents, bosses, parents in human society, etc.)- why would we think it's any different in dogs? I've watched my own pack of 4 dogs- and I see it- every day. My dogs are also better behaved than the majority of kids I see.

So- while some idiot may think that I'm being *cruel* if I don't let my dogs on the bed, or don't let them climb up in my lap uninvited, or make their play sessions "my" idea, not theirs. But, my dog will also not be rude to you if you're ever a guest in my home- nor will my dogs lunge at other dogs in public, etc.
Reply:One of the mistaken theories is that dogs behave exactly like wolves. They don't. Because of selective breeding over the years for temperament that will tolerate and enjoy human company, dogs act more like juvenile wolves than adult wolves, so their pack behavior is also modified. For example, adult wolves rarely play, but adult dogs often do. Also wolves rarely fight among each other - it is bad for the health of the pack for constant fighting to be going on - instead they communicate pack order and authority and give orders largely through body language. Dogs are more likely to fight with other dogs than wolves are.

Some things still apply - dogs tend to have a pack order that they follow and they accept humans as part of that pack (wolves don't). But training techniques such as the so-called alpha roll are rarely seen in wolf packs and are not good training techniques for dogs.
Reply:My friend was attacked by a pack of Dachsunds, that were her sisters, who came in from out of town. One dog bit her when she went down the stairs and then the other two started to attack her. It took 3 people to pull the pack of dogs off of her. Her sister breeds Dachsunds and was told that they have that pack instinct in them... They chewed her leg up pretty good. She went to the ER.
Reply:That's because dogs are NOT wolves, they are a separate branch of that evolutionary direction.

Dogs do get into pack mentality if there are a group of them, meaning one dog sounds the alarm, all the other dogs get excited too, but they are certainly not roving packs of wolves - that's nuts. So is Cesar Millan who bases his nutsy theories on roving packs of Mexican semi-feral street dogs.

That "alpha roll" will get you bitten - not even wolves do it. The wolves bow and roll over willingly to the lead wolf - he doesn't pin them down like Millan does - if an adult wolf has to do that to another wolf, he is going to kill him.

Dogs are NOT wolves - they bond with people and are companion animals.
Reply:Ah, I have no idea what is really true or not. I don't believe in the whole "dog whisperer" act, but I do believe there is some kind of "order" when you have more than one dog, or if you have one dog, that your dog should understand that you are before them in "order".
Reply:This was a good article about dominance and the (all-too-popular) "alpha roll".

http://www.dogtrickacademy.com/members/a...

There are other links at the bottom of the article (above), that talk about the pack behavior in wolves and what parts of it are relevant --or not--to dog pack behavior and dog training.
Reply:I've heard whispers of this, too, but never more than a mention somewhere. I'd be interested to know this answer.
Reply:There was a thread on a forum I belong to that discussed the very topic you are interested in depth. You can read the discussion and find links to other writings on the subject at- http://www.leerburg.com/forums/ubbthread...
Reply:The only thing I can Answer is that what they say about much of the facts about pack behavior in dogs were false. That is not true I can tell you! Trust me, I know lots about dogs, otherwise a dog expert!

Why does the food and drug administration not allow certain unorthodox or unproven treatments to be used?

If, for example, injections of mistletoe extract has shown to halt certain cancers in testing in other countries.....why not allow this as an alternative particularly if the patient sees that other forms of treatment are not working? It is the person suffering from the disease that is taking the chance so why does the FDA have to interfere? Furthermore, why are trials not being done or being done fast enough to see if any of these experimental methods may or may not work? Why do so many people have to die when so much money is donated to cancer research per year? Where is all this money going to when it seems nothing new is being discovered?

Why does the food and drug administration not allow certain unorthodox or unproven treatments to be used?
let's suppose i have a pill that contains poison.

maybe not a lot, just a little.

as long as you don't take too much, you'll be okay.

then i put articles in papers in other countries, maybe i pay to put them there.

then i offer to sell you the stuff.

since all you can tell is what i've put in those other papers, why would you not buy my pills.

i mean, you are desperate, and my pills are the only thing that will save you.

as for trials, pharmaceutical companies pay for them.

let's suppose salt water will cure something.

how much to you think a company will pay to test whether that's true?

i mean, there's no profit, you're just gonna get some water at the beach.

in fact, next time you have an infection, maybe in your hand.

try running hot water over it 3-4 times a day, for 5-10 mines each time.

(don't burn yourself, not that hot.)

you'll find it heals fairly quickly.

but who's going to pay to test that?

the water company?

i don't think so.

a pharmaceutical company?

no. they want to sell you some ointment or other.

SO, why doesn't the government do these studies?

they're expensive.

and there's a reasonably good chance that these "experimental" remedies won't work.

and when the government does spend all that money, and get no results, then you'll be complaining about all the money they wasted.

ya just can't win for losing.

surely things do move slowly.

if you're young, read up on thalidomide.

the government messed up and ruined thousands of peoples lives permanently.
Reply:Because the FDA is run by the US government, who are in the financial stranglehold of the big pharmaceutical companies.

We're having a similar fight in the UK - on the grounds of the uselessness of animal experiments as well as on behalf of patients who want to use their own intelligence to manage their own condition.
Reply:They are trying to prevent harm from untested drugs or treatments. They also are trying to limit treatment in a scientific way to things that are proven to work. Otherwise you get all sorts of people trying to sell garbage. They still do it, they just can't say it cures cancer for example.

Research question; Chekhov and Ibsen?

Can someone help me find a research question, that involves stanislavski's method and a comparison between Chekhov's the seagull and Ibsen's A Doll's House (or another play by Ibsen)? I'm really desperate!!!

Research question; Chekhov and Ibsen?
Stanislavski co-founded the Moscow Art theater and it's first production was Chekhovs' "The Seagull." It was after this that stanislavski developed his method. Chekhov often stated that the key to acting in his plays was the language. The answer to everything is "in the text." There was no creating circumstances or making up relationships to people,..it's all in the text. Stanislavski's method is all about thinking of a moment in your past and connecting it to the emotion or objective of the scene which is contrary to what Chekhov demanded of his actors. The stanislavski's method would be more suitable for any Ibsen play. There's quite a lot of unspoken tension in his plays and that is a key element of Ibsen,of what is going on between the dialogue. So you could say that Chehov has given actors the blueprint for his own plays and leaves little room for improvisation,it has to be performed according to what the author wrote. There is more freedom with Ibsen,etc...Hope this helps..

Is there any real, hard, cold evidence against creationism and a 6000+ year old Earth?

I know there are debates--arguments, really-- but is there really any evidence? Or at least some compelling ideas that don't have an equally compelling answer on the side of Creationism. If you answer yes, could you please tell me where I can research this for myself? Knowing that Carbon-14 dating is not reliable, what are these other dating methods and where can I learn about them? The Mesopotamians and Egyptians invented beer around 8000 years ago. The earth can't be younger than beer, can it?
Reply:There are mountains of evidence against creationism. They come from astronomy, geology, chemistry, physics, paleontology, molecular biology and other sources.

Carbon 14 dating is useful for samples less than 50,000 years. However, there are other isotopic dating methods that are useful for time periods that are in the hundreds of millions to billions of years.

There is no physical evidence for a world that is 6000 years old. It is a myth. The important point is that creationism cannot claim evidence supporting a young earth by merely questioning the scientific evidence. This is a logical error called a false duality. Each theory must have supporting physical evidence, and the young earth has no supporting physical evidence, only arguments against what its supporters see as holes in the old earth argument. This, again, is very bad logic.
Reply:Just study sciences, and you will find overwhelming evidence against such a primitive and ignorant myth. Geology, paleontology, cosmology, biology, archaeology, astronomy, etc. all show that Genesis is a piece of bad fiction written by an ignorant shepherd. creationism has no compelling arguments. It is just bad science and pseudo-science that real scientists have refuted many times. I used to get 2 books on creationism and 2 on evolution and compare them. If you are objective, you should easily see in such comparisons that creationism is nonsense. At the library, I have seen a book about "Why Creationists Are Wrong". Look for it.Carbon-14 dating is only for items less than 50,000 yers old. There are several other radioactive elements used, and they all agree quite well about the age of the earth and its fossils.
Reply:You can present all the data you like, but it will fall on deaf ears. Creationists put all the geology, strata, fossils, Grand Canyons, down to the flood. It turned over everything, destroyed most life (fossils) and pushed up the mountains.

If you argue that this is physically impossible in the 6000 year timeframe, or impossible for a single flood event, they will simply come back with the “God can do anything” bit.

Probably the best evidence geologist have is taking the geological extreme – Everest. The summit of Everest is made of limestone that was formed from the shells of trillions of ocean creatures. For a flood event to push up the ocean bed to nearly 9 km above sea level, it would have to have been a gargantuan cataclysmic event. Tsunamis many kilometers high would have raged all over the world, and from all the other mountain ranges being pushed up at the same time. This would hardly be good sailing conditions for Noahs wooden boat, would it?

But even then, the creationists would argue that God protected Noah’s ark from the mayhem, which would make anyone wonder why he bothered to get Noah to build an ark in the first place. But they would say “to test his faith”.

Can’t win, I’m afraid. We just need to ignore them.
Reply:Christianity itself provides the best evidence; for the Earth to only be 6000 years old, the God of Christianity would have to be an evil Trickster God; He made the Grand Canyon LOOK as though water had been eroding it for tens of thousands of years; He hid fossils in rock strata, He magically endowed things with levels of carbon isotopes that made them appear to be hundreds of thousands of years old. If you "know" Carbon-dating to be unreliable, please pass on the details of this to the rest of us!

Creationism is pseudoscience, pure %26amp; simple, invented by people apparently willing to believe in a God smart enough to have made the world, the Universe %26amp; Everything, but not smart enough to done it through any elegant mechanisms....they prefer He just "waved a magic wand", like the Wizard of Oz!

You don't believe your God is an evil Trickster God, do you?
Reply:The most compelling evidence would have to be the fossilized remains of plants and animals that do not exist today or are mentioned in the Bible.

The only explaination would be the pre-biblical existance of the earth.

The Creationist theory falls apart when you try to find a definiton of what is "one day" for God.
Reply:Carbon dating is only really usueful over a few thousand years - that's not how rocks are dated.

We use Uranium-Lead, Strontium-Neodymium and other radioactive decays. We can use several to verify the answers, and they are much more reliable than C14 dating.

Every measure we have of the speed of light is consistent; and we can measure the distance to stars and galaxies in various different ways, and the light from even the closest galaxies takes more than 6000 years to reach us.

In addition to reading Geology textbooks, try astronomy textbooks to understand this.
Reply:Wow, people do get freekin' excited about this, don't they? One or two of 'em even wrote you a term paper! No references in the whole batch, tho, mine included.

Simple answer, No. It's not easy to develop "real hard cold (meaning 'scientific') evidence" AGAINST something, only FOR something.

And there are mountains of evidence FOR the preeminent scientific theories, that's why they are preeminent.
Reply:in gen 1:1 it says. in the beginning god created the heavens and the earth.in gen1:2 it says and the became formless and empty so between gen 1:1 and gen1:2 theirs a time gap. and the bible dose not say how long Adam and eve live in the garden it could have Bean thousands of years the bible says that in haven one day is a 1000.years on earth.
Reply:Yes. Oodles. Every science from chemistry, acrhaelogy, biology to physics shows the earth is MUCH older.

Reply:Yes, there is lots of evidence of the age of Earth being about 4.5 billion years. This does not say that the Bible is untrue, but perhaps the interpretation of it. Consider this possibility: The Bible tells what God did, and Science tells how He did it. Also this:

2 Peter 3:8 "But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day."

The men who wrote the Bible would not have understood modern science. They could only write it as they understood it.

"The generally accepted age for the Earth and the rest of the solar system is about 4.55 billion years (plus or minus about 1%). This value is derived from several different lines of evidence.

Unfortunately, the age cannot be computed directly from material that is solely from the Earth. There is evidence that energy from the Earth's accumulation caused the surface to be molten. Further, the processes of erosion and crustal recycling have apparently destroyed all of the earliest surface.

The oldest rocks which have been found so far (on the Earth) date to about 3.8 to 3.9 billion years ago (by several radiometric dating methods). Some of these rocks are sedimentary, and include minerals which are themselves as old as 4.1 to 4.2 billion years. Rocks of this age are relatively rare, however rocks that are at least 3.5 billion years in age have been found on North America, Greenland, Australia, Africa, and Asia.

While these values do not compute an age for the Earth, they do establish a lower limit (the Earth must be at least as old as any formation on it). This lower limit is at least concordant with the independently derived figure of 4.55 billion years for the Earth's actual age.

The most direct means for calculating the Earth's age is a Pb/Pb isochron age, derived from samples of the Earth and meteorites. This involves measurement of three isotopes of lead (Pb-206, Pb-207, and either Pb-208 or Pb-204). A plot is constructed of Pb-206/Pb-204 versus Pb-207/Pb-204."

"So far scientists have not found a way to determine the exact age of the Earth directly from Earth rocks because Earth's oldest rocks have been recycled and destroyed by the process of plate tectonics. If there are any of Earth's primordial rocks left in their original state, they have not yet been found.

Ancient rocks exceeding 3.5 billion years in age are found on all of Earth's continents. The oldest rocks on Earth found so far are the Acasta Gneisses in northwestern Canada near Great Slave Lake (4.03 Ga) and the Isua Supracrustal rocks in West Greenland (3.7 to 3.8 Ga), but well-studied rocks nearly as old are also found in the Minnesota River Valley and northern Michigan (3.5-3.7 billion years), in Swaziland (3.4-3.5 billion years), and in Western Australia (3.4-3.6 billion years). [See Editor's Note.] These ancient rocks have been dated by a number of radiometric dating methods and the consistency of the results give scientists confidence that the ages are correct to within a few percent. An interesting feature of these ancient rocks is that they are not from any sort of "primordial crust" but are lava flows and sediments deposited in shallow water, an indication that Earth history began well before these rocks were deposited. In Western Australia, single zircon crystals found in younger sedimentary rocks have radiometric ages of as much as 4.3 billion years, making these tiny crystals the oldest materials to be found on Earth so far. The source rocks for these zircon crystals have not yet been found. The ages measured for Earth's oldest rocks and oldest crystals show that the Earth is at least 4.3 billion years in age but do not reveal the exact age of Earth's formation. The best age for the Earth (4.54 Ga) is based on old, presumed single-stage leads coupled with the Pb ratios in troilite from iron meteorites, specifically the Canyon Diablo meteorite. In addition, mineral grains (zircon) with U-Pb ages of 4.4 Ga have recently been reported from sedimentary rocks in west-central Australia.

The best age for the Earth comes not from dating individual rocks but by considering the Earth and meteorites as part of the same evolving system in which the isotopic composition of lead, specifically the ratio of lead-207 to lead-206 changes over time owing to the decay of radioactive uranium-235 and uranium-238, respectively. Scientists have used this approach to determine the time required for the isotopes in the Earth's oldest lead ores, of which there are only a few, to evolve from its primordial composition, as measured in uranium-free phases of iron meteorites, to its compositions at the time these lead ores separated from their mantle reservoirs. These calculations result in an age for the Earth and meteorites, and hence the Solar System, of 4.54 billion years with an uncertainty of less than 1 percent. To be precise, this age represents the last time that lead isotopes were homogeneous througout the inner Solar System and the time that lead and uranium was incorporated into the solid bodies of the Solar System. The age of 4.54 billion years found for the Solar System and Earth is consistent with current calculations of 11 to 13 billion years for the age of the Milky Way Galaxy (based on the stage of evolution of globular cluster stars) and the age of 10 to 15 billion years for the age of the Universe (based on the recession of distant galaxies). For additional information on this subject, see G. Brent Dalrymple's The Age of the Earth, published by the Stanford University Press (Stanford, Calif.) in 1991."

Evolution

"The first step in demonstrating the truth of evolution is to make the claim that all living creatures must have a living parent. This point has been overwhelmingly established in the past century and a half, ever since the French scientist Louis Pasteur demonstrated how fermentation took place and thus laid to rest centuries of stories about beetles arising spontaneously out of dung or gut worms being miraculously produced from non-living material. There is absolutely no evidence for this ancient belief. Living creatures must come from other living creatures. It does no damage to this point to claim that life must have had some origin way back in time, perhaps in a chemical reaction of inorganic materials (in some primordial soup) or in some invasion from outer space. That may well be true. But what is clear is that any such origin for living things or living material must result in a very simple organism. There is no evidence whatsoever (except in science fiction like Frankenstein) that inorganic chemical processes can produce complex, multi-cellular living creatures (the recent experiments cloning sheep, of course, are based on living tissue from other sheep).

The second important point in the case for evolution is that some living creatures are very different from some others. This, I take it, is self-evident. Let me cite a common example: many animals have what we call an internal skeletal structure featuring a backbone and skull. We call these animals vertebrates. Most animals do not have these features (we call them invertebrates). The distinction between vertebrates and invertebrates is something no one who cares to look at samples of both can reasonably deny, and, so far as I am aware, no one hostile to evolution has ever denied a fact so apparent to anyone who observes the world for a few moments.

The final point in the case for evolution is this: simple animals and plants existed on earth long before more complex ones (invertebrate animals, for example, were around for a very long time before there were any vertebrates). Here again, the evidence from fossils is overwhelming. In the deepest rock layers, there are no signs of life. The first fossil remains are of very simple living things. As the strata get more recent, the variety and complexity of life increase (although not at a uniform rate). And no human fossils have ever been found except in the most superficial layers of the earth (e.g., battlefields, graveyards, flood deposits, and so on). In all the countless geological excavations and inspections (for example, of the Grand Canyon), no one has ever come up with a genuine fossil remnant which goes against this general principle (and it would only take one genuine find to overturn this principle).

Well, if we put these three points together, the rational case for evolution is air tight. If all living creatures must have a living parent, if living creatures are different, and if simpler forms were around before the more complex forms, then the more complex forms must have come from the simpler forms (e.g., vertebrates from invertebrates). There is simply no other way of dealing reasonably with the evidence we have. Of course, one might deny (as some do) that the layers of the earth represent a succession of very lengthy epochs and claim, for example, that the Grand Canyon was created in a matter of days, but this surely violates scientific observation and all known scientific processes as much as does the claim that, say, vertebrates just, well, appeared one day out of a spontaneous combination of chemicals.

To make the claim for the scientific truth of evolution in this way is to assert nothing about how it might occur. Darwin provides one answer (through natural selection), but others have been suggested, too (including some which see a divine agency at work in the transforming process). The above argument is intended, however, to demonstrate that the general principle of evolution is, given the scientific evidence, logically unassailable and that, thus, the concept is a law of nature as truly established as is, say, gravitation."

Any biologists willing to be interviewed about the scientific method?

Hello, I have a biology project in which I am required to interview a scientist about how he/she has applied the scientific method to a biology-related project.

I already contacted two scientists who were recommended by my classmates' parents, but they have not responded to my emails. If anybody here does research in any field of biology and would not mind being interviewed or if you know anybody who would be willing, please let me know. The interview can be done over email some time in the next couple of weeks, at your convenience. Thank you.

A question about writing a paper for a conference?

I want to submit a paper that I wrote for one of my classes to a humanities conference. The way the paper is currently structured is in the form of a scientific research article even though it deals with a humanities/sociology topic. It has the following components: Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Conclusion.

I looked at the papers submitted to last year's conference on the conference website, and I didn't see any in the format I described.

My question is, is it possible to restructure my existing paper into a research essay (with a thesis and main points), or do you think they'll accept it as it is, in the format I described above?

A question about writing a paper for a conference?
(1) First of all, it is easy to reformat your paper, so don't worry about that aspect of it. I have had to do it for practically every paper I've submitted.

(2) Each conference is different! In many cases the conference will have a specific criteria, based upon the one which is generally used in that field.

If you go to the website for the conference or the association, look for submisison guidelines. If all else fails, contact the person coordinating the papers.

It will look better to have asked the right questions and do it right, than to submit something that will mean extra work for the conference coordinators
Reply:i think it is possible

you ask the concerned organisation
Reply:What you have done is correct. Best to submit as it is.

As a concession to a more general audience, if you feel like it, add a separate introduction telling first why you feel that this style is more appropriate,. Follow this with an extended abstract.

My own view is to go as is.

You can only determine the shelf life of edible oil be experimenting only, and the matter of fact for any product.

You have to take samples and put them in simulated store environments and observe. There is no scientific formula that will help you.

I need safe, affordable treatment for acne scars. Does it exist?

I don't have extremely deep scars on my face, but they are noticeable and widespread around my face. Depending on the lighting/shadows of a room, they can be very noticeable to not so noticeable.

I have seen a dermatologist, and dumped a couple grand into micro-dermabrasion. I noticed mild results, but could not afford to keep them up. I try to do research, but it is so confusing. Chemical peels, acid peels, lasers, surgeries, home remedies, etc.

I don't want to do anything super serious with high risk of intensified scarring, or that has long recovery times. I also don't have tons of cash to waste on unreliable methods. Can anyone offer some suggestions, either from professional or personal experience?

I need safe, affordable treatment for acne scars. Does it exist?
Retin-A helped diminish my shallow acne scars. Persistence is key %26amp; you must wear sunscreen because it makes skin more prone to sun burn.
Reply:chemical peels work really well but there not cheep. how they work is a dermatologist puts consentrated sylcic acid on your face and at firt it burns but then they will put numbing cream on. during the next week your skin will "shead" off your top layer of skin, taking off most scars and revealing fresher skin. but if you do do this make sure you dont have anything importaint to go to because your face will be a bit red. if you want a cheeper remidy try "scar zone". you can get it at any drug store. my friend uses for her acne scars and it works pretty well. they even make a tretment made just for acne scars. only thing is is that it takes at least 5 months to start working. also you should use other acne treatments like scrubs and washes to prevent futher scaring. and never ever ever pick at your acnce. when choosing a ance wash/scrub i sugest you use one that has sylcic acid or Benzoyl Peroxide. i hope i answered your question.
Reply:Glytone. Best. Stuff. Ever.

It cleared my skin in a week, and now, 4 months later, I still have crystal clear skin! It's not cheap, but it's worth it, and it works. It has dramatically gotten rid of my scarring as well.

You can buy it online, at a dermatologist's office who carries the line, or at a cosmedical spa. I found it through yahoo local by typing in glytone.

ps- the first week will be irritating (some burning and stinging) while your skin builds a tolerance for glycolic acid, but it's worth it.

I broke out at age 10. At 24 I went through accutane, which kept me clear for three years, and then broke out again. Glytone not only cleared my skin, but it changed it. It works. It's your face and it's worth it!!
Reply:I don't think there is much you can do. You can try a Jensen peel which makes your face peel. That helped me. Also, I know people can use laser, but that is more expensive. If your scars are not too bad, try lightening creams sold at cosmetic counters or drugstores.

There's a tremendous amount of written information out there and different things work for different personality types, but would you be willing to share with me the tried and true methods that you feel have actually been working for you?

Can you share your best time management tips?
I have quiet time, for just me!! every day. Either on my lunch break, or when i get home (before i get out of the car!). I try to review the month on Sundays, and then take it day to day.
Reply:I have also taken a few Franklin Covey time mgmt classes, and have read books by Steven Covey like "7 habits of highly effective people" There is a lot more to time mgmt than you might think. Good luck! Report Abuse

I need a proposal for a paleoanthropological field study for a hominid or pre-hominid.?

Provide a brief proposal for a paleoanthropological field study for the hominid or pre-hominid of your choice. Outline your strategy (including staff, geography, geology, survey and excavation methods, and dating technique). What is your research question and how do you hope to answer this question? Why is your question relevant?

I'm having a lot of trouble with this question I've got to answer for my physical anthropology class. Any assistance would help.

I need a proposal for a paleoanthropological field study for a hominid or pre-hominid.?
What about this proposal, I propose that there never was such an animal as a pre-hominid, but of course you can find all the evidence against my proposal in the biased pages of Wilcopedia and their counterparts. I would recommend you read a book called Forbidden Archaeology by Richard Thompson and Michael Cremo published in 1993. Also Ancient Traces. by Michael Baigent. published 1998.

What should I include in a SPEECH on RACIAL DISCRIMINATION?

I am doing some research on the Racial Discrimination Act 1975. What good points can I include? What methods of presentation would be interesting to you, as the audience?

What should I include in a SPEECH on RACIAL DISCRIMINATION?
Start at the beginning! Start at the basics! Lay the Foundation of your speech! DEFINE YOUR TERMS! Provide your audience with definitions of the following terms: Racist, Racism, Discrimination, Prejudice, Stereotype etc. Many statements that are make by well known people are "Label" as racist; when in fact they are not! For example; if I say that Jews are money hungry and greedy, Am I a racist? Is this statement based on discrimination? Am I being Prejudice? Am I Stereotyping Jews? How about "None of the Above" Perhaps the Statement that Jews are money hungry and greedy is nothing more then a statement based on STUPIDITY and IGNORANCE!
Reply:brown eyed, blue eyed demonstration is the most effective thing I have seen to show this for what it is.
Reply:Maybe you should include the civil rights movenment. That would give your speech more information.
Reply:the speech from Dr. M.L.King Jr.'s March on Washington, were there no racial discrimination, the speech and march may have been an anti-war march instead.
Reply:The most important thing to discuss is whether these acts are effective or not, and methods that should be employed to enforce them. You can't legislate against what people think, after all (I doubt there were many racists who woke up one day and went "oh, that bill's been passed; I'd better stop being a racist").
Reply:the current illegal immigration debate in reference to illegal immigrants and healthcare
Reply:include everything you know

What was the motivation of the Egyptians for building the pyramids?

Hey guys

I am doing a research paper and I need some help. I need some good sources to find the answer of this question (What was the motivation of the Egyptians for building the pyramids?) Please cite the source. I am also looking for the different construction methods or tools that the Egyptians used for building the pyramids.

Thanks

What was the motivation of the Egyptians for building the pyramids?
This answer is about pyramids in Egypt. Pyramids were also constructed in ancient Greece and Mesoamerica. Flat topped pyramids were constructed in ancient China.

Pyramids in Egypt served as tombs, initially only for kings and close members of the royal family, but eventually came to be used (in much smaller forms) by the general populace.

The pyramid is thought to have developed out of the mastaba tomb. Mastaba is an Arabic word, meaning bench, which was applied to the flat-topped, slope sided superstructures of tombs. The pyramid is also thought to be associated with solar worship and the "ben-ben" stone which played a major role in sun worship and was vaguely pyramid shaped.

In the 3rd Dynasty, several mastabas were stacked forming the Step Pyramid of King Djoser. By the 4th Dynasty in the reign of Snefru attempts at building a true pyramid were underway. The pyramids of the 4th and 5th Dynasties, including those at Giza, essentially reflect the further refinement of the pyramid, the chambers within it, and the associated temple complexes. Eventually the standard style was an orientation of east to west (significant in Egyptian religion), with a pyramid temple, located directly on the east side of the pyramid, and a causeway leading to the "valley temple" located near the Nile at the edge of the cultivation.

While it is accepted by reputable Egyptologists that pyramids served as burials for kings, the exact details of the theology behind them remains unclear. One idea, popularized I believe by Dr. Mark Lehner, one of the foremost experts on Egyptian pyramids, is that pyramids served as "resurrection machines" providing all the necessary means for eternal life with the gods for the dead king.

In the late 5th Dynasty in the Pyramid of Unas at Saqqara, we have the first appearance of formal texts within the pyramid itself - the appropriately-named Pyramid Texts. These texts are somewhat esoteric and are essentially a collection of spells, stories, and guides relating to the Underworld. Initially these texts were limited to royalty. In succeeding pyramids, elements of the Pyramid Texts were included in the "Coffin Texts" of the First Intermediate and Middle Kingdom and in the "Book of the Dead" of the New Kingdom - texts available to a broad spectrum of society.

Pyramid construction continued in the Middle Kingdom - again limited to royalty, but not on the grand scale of the Old Kingdom. The last known royal pyramids located in Egypt are that of King Ahmose, founder of the 18th Dynasty of the New Kingdom (ca. 1550 BCE) and the pyramid-cenotaph constructed for his grandmother, Queen Tetisheri. Both are located at Abydos.

In the New Kingdom, pyramids came to be part of tombs for reasonably wealthy private individuals - frequently added to the exterior portico area of rock-cut cliff tombs or appearing as architectural elements of brick constructed tombs in varous parts of Egypt.

The Napatan and Meroitic kingdoms in Nubia (modern Sudan) also used the pyramid for royal burials at sites such as El-Kurru and Nuri. While the Napatan kings ruled Egypt for a time during the 25th Dynasty and were buried in pyramids, those pyramids were located in Nubia proper.

Pyramid construction relied on highly skilled teams of workmen who were housed nearby the pyramid fields - in the Old Kingdom located in the general vicinity of the ancient capital Memphis at sites now knows as Giza, Saqqara, Meidum, and Dashur. A few pyramids in the Middle Kingdom were located near the Fayum, roughly Middle Egypt.

In addition to the full-time workmen, there was likely a seasonal labor requirement asked of the lower classes of Egyptian society - a sort of taxation, often referred to by the French term "corvee" labor. This is distinct from slavery. While the ancient Greek historian Herodotus (writing over a thousand years after the construction of the pyramids at Giza) reported that he was told the pyramids at Giza were constructed by slaves, Herodotus was wrong about any number of things in his reports and may not even have visited Egypt in person, so he is usually not taken as a realiable source.

Tools included square levels and plumb bobs, set squares, and vertical plumb bobs (which can be seen in the Cairo Museum), as well as copper blades for stone cutting, pounding stones for dressing stone blocks, and a ridged, mushroom shaped device that may have served as a sort of "proto-pulley."

How does one write a dictionary for commercial purposes? Can you use other dictionaries as a basis?

I am interested in publishing dictionaries of philosophy, psychology, medicine, law, religion, mathematics, business, science, foreign language to English and English to foreign language dictionaries, dictionaries of synonyms, antonyms, idioms, etymologies, rhyming and alliteration, etc. I am contemplating using out of print books older than 75 years or 100 years as the source materials as these are as I understand in the Public Domain. I would like to know the necessary methods for writing such dictionaries -- documenting the sources used, the legal concerns in writing such reference works, staying within the bounds of academic and publishing business customs and practices. Any references that might help in these matters would be greatly appreciated. I understand that part of my research will have to be into lexicography itself. I would like to publish these dictionaries and other reference works for both commercial purposes and for Open Content/Public Domain uses.

It seems like you are on the right track. Encyclopedia's are obsolete. We are using a commercial dictionary as we read, type and surf the i-net. It is truly awesome that even this, no..especially this forum exists. I am glad to be able to be a part of it. I like your idea, why not be able to use other dictionaries, I dont think its plagarism, your publication most likely would not be copywritten... Go For It e-mail me the finished project.

How effective or uneffective is the Amercian teaching method compared to the rest of the world?

I am doing a research paper regarding dropout rates. Is there a link between the U.S. teaching method and high dropout rates? What is the dropout rate and teaching method in other countries? If we are the superior power in the world, then why is there such a high dropout rate?

How effective or uneffective is the Amercian teaching method compared to the rest of the world?
Not very..look at the research and information compiled in the US statistical manual....I did a similar paper years ago and the facts are frightening... I am in the Special Educational field and I looked mostly at students with 'learning disabilities'...The drop-out rate is significantly higher for these kids. But there are many more factors to include. ie... Socio-ecomic factors, racial percentage to the other population, teacher involvement....there is a basis for all of this. Look in the educational journals..especially if you have or your school library has ERIC. I found some of the most relevant information in places when looking in the prison system archives and such, because usually these kids will go to jail. statistically speaking..
Reply:I live in the USA. I have three kids that live in England. They have been there since about 1991. When my oldest son was in school here he was getting very poor grades. But from the first quarter of school in the England schools his grades whent up like crazy. He is now 25 years old, and has a batchlers degree in Phisics. That should tell you some thing about the English school system.

Why do you use email at work to communicate?

It's for a research power point. Can you tell me some of the benefits of using email rather than other methods, and some things that other means of communication have that email lacks. Please and thank you.

Why do you use email at work to communicate?
Electronic mail is far easier to communicate with because you don't always need to track down an individual in order to communicate. Instead of interacting face to face, e-mail allows for a more rapid means of communication that is beneficial to either party involved. E-mail lacks a personal means to interact that other methods do such as a personal touch, like that of letter writing.
Reply:It's convenient, also gives people a chance to answer at a later time if their busy with something.

Group emails gets the word out at once rather than having to call a meeting.

Provides a paper trail and allows the note to be printable.

What is the best testing method to carry out for an evaluation tool.?

I designed a software evaluation tool for research purposes. It helps monitor what kinds of errors users come across. What is the best test method I can use for testing.

Any info would be great.

What is the best testing method to carry out for an evaluation tool.?
Strange.

The design of a software evaluation tool should have taken into a kind what kinds of errors users were most likely to come across. Allowances for these errors or mechanisms to test them would then have been built into the tool.

More importantly, I can say from experience, that when you consider what kinds of errors users come across, first you'll have to separate system, application, hardware, driver, and user-related (read user-caused) errors.

Unfortunately, users cause most errors! So, from the design standpoint it will be extremely difficult to test for "errors" without considering 'normal' system operation in the hands of clueless users.

Evaluating software in the lab is concerned most with how well applications relate to the system, how well applications inter-relate with each other, how software functions across different browsers, how well it will recover from error conditions, all of the things that will matter before a user gets his/her hands on it.

Then the fun begins.

Where in the life-cycle of a software package will you be able to define a set of parameters that test its design functionality and tests its operation under normal operating conditions, meaning at the hands of users?
Reply:I would say some kind of beta testing with some trusty people (if you don't want your project to be published all over the net already.)
Reply:Get a group of people to test and break your software. Then, use a bug tracker to track what errors people are getting. Most of this can be done through the web.

Have you gotten pregnant on birth control?

Either using the Pill or Condoms Correctly every time? Just doing a survey for research on the reliability of birth control methods and the myths surrounding some of them. Thanks.

Have you gotten pregnant on birth control?
I havn't, but i know people who have...the truth is that a high estimation of woman use BC incorrectly. Condoms arn't fool proof either. Read all directions first!
Reply:my mum got pregnant with her seventh child whilst on the pill in 1994/5.
Reply:NOTHING is 100% effective except for abstinence.

There are plenty of women who get pregnant with the pill/condom combo.

Birth control at the MOST is only 99% effective, that includes doubling up (pill/condom) tripling up (pill/condom/morning after pill), etc.
Reply:Not me, but a friend of mine got pregnant while using the patch and my sister's friend got pregnant while on the 3 month shot, (I don't know what this is called).
Reply:Well I keep knocking her up.........I think I have super sperm....
Reply:I have a 26 month old in the other room taking a nap. His mom was on the pill, and she got pregnant at a bad time too. He is her 5th son!!!
Reply:No I was using the Pill for years and never got pregnant and Did not get pregnant while using protection.
Reply:Condom one time the pill another. I have two biological daughters and have yet to try to conceive. They are now 15 and 16 !
Reply:the pill is 97% birth control however there is still the 3% chance you can still get pregnant while on the pill best to use condoms with the pill to be 99% sure. I put 99% because there is not such thing as a 100% in this world.
Reply:I got pregnant using the diaphragm...and yes I was using it correctly.

My mother got pregnant with the pill (me), the IUD (my sister), and a tubal - clip method (brother).

My SIL got pregnant using the monthly shot (Lunelle).
Reply:No - because I'm a guy...

But I did have a LATEX accident.

That resulted in the birth of my only NATURAL child.
Reply:well there is always a risk

i persnaly have only used a condo, 1 out of three times and ive never gotten preg and im not on the pill never have been

the safest way is to use both but niether are 100% sure u wotn get preg

the only way ucan be 100%sure u wont be preg is to not have it

but what fun is that?

lol
Reply:I have not. But a good friend of mine did (while on the pill) three times
Reply:I haven't - but my best guy friend got his girlfriend pregnant using a condom.

I don't know if it was ripped or torn - but I know they used one.

My Husband and I use condoms for birth control and we've been married for 3years - and I have not gotten pregnant.
Reply:Used correctly there is still a 1% - 2% chance of getting pregnant with birth control. Used incorrectly, your chances pf getting pregnant are no better or worse than with no birth control at all. I personally have never gotten pregnant while on birth control and the MAJORITY of people who have can generally point to things like forgetting their pill one day or putting a condom on incorrectly. But even with perfect use, it's still possible.
Reply:Yep, I got pregnant while on the pill. My daughter is now 8 1/2 years old....lol
Reply:yep i was on the pill when i got pregnant
Reply:Yes. I got pregnant twice. The first time using both the pill and a condom. The second just on the pill. Come to find out that particular pill made me more fertile? Nice to know after the fact huh?

This was over 12 years ago, the whole pill thing has gotten better since then!
Reply:no ima guy
Reply:YEP, I got pregnant with my twins while on birth control!
Reply:nope...but then again i've only been on the pill for a month and a half...but condoms havent failed me yet...=]
Reply:I haven't, but a fiend of mine did..she took her pill at the same time everyday and usually used condoms..but she still got pregnant. But also..these things are only 99% reliable they even say it on the box. 99% is a lot, but hey there is stil that risk!
Reply:No. Me and my b/f use the pill AND the pull out method and haven't gotten pregg yet..(it's been about 2 years).
Reply:Nope. I've been married for two years and I'm still not pregnant. I'm actually off of bc now because we're about to try. I am scared that maybe I can't though because we haven't had a "mistake" so far. I've even skipped up to 3 days before on accident and still no baby. I've known at least two different women that have had a bc pregnancy.
Reply:Yes i did. I was on the injection and got pregnant. I was 7mths and misscarried her
Reply:i think im pregnant right now
Reply:Yes, I took the morning after pill - but - it came in 2 pills and I onlt took one as the first made me so sick I was vomiting that day, so this isn't perhaps all that reliable.
Reply:Not me, but my mother got pregnant with me while on the pill.
Reply:Condoms are only 98%.

The pill will prevent pregnancy, but won't stop STI or STDs
Reply:I did with my third child. After the fact I was told that the antibotics I was taken at the time could have caused the pill not to work. However it seems my doctor and nurse disagreed on if this is really true or not.
Reply:no bc is 100% accurate.
