When doing product placements in Movies, how are projected view projections calculated?

How to Production companies or Research companies forecast estimated viewer impressions on product placements? For example, if Apple pays to have an Ipod in a movie for 30 seconds, what methods are used to determine

about how many people will notice the ipod?

When doing product placements in Movies, how are projected view projections calculated?
The metrics are all in place. The movie makers already know how many movies Will be seen and by how many viewers. They have research companies who provide that information.

Of course it's not set in stone. When the movie makers' agents are negotiating for price they will favor the highest probability and the highest projections.
