What do you think about the fact that in the midst of a weak economy, oil companies are making record profits?

I'm not saying whether I think this is right or wrong, just want to see what others think. President Bush says that it is a good thing, that the oil companies will invest their profits in the economy and research. Others wonder why the oil companies would do research when to invest in research into other forms of energy and energy-saving methods is to their disadvantage in every way. Ready, Set, Think!

What do you think about the fact that in the midst of a weak economy, oil companies are making record profits?
That's called capitalism.

It provides the internet, your job, tax supported social systems, and political support.

Don't like the fact that the oil companies AND THEIR MILLIONS OF INVESTORS made a nice profit?

Tough.

Go to the INS, tell them you're an illegal, get deported. Make room for someone who wants to be part of the solution and not whine about a system that works.

Thank you for your time.
Reply:wow..finally a good question with a reason to think... I think its so rediculous. The prices, and the way he thinks this is going to help. When they decide to change all the stuff...how are us people who are middle claass who cant afford those new 30,000 vehicles gonna be able to afford regular gas? Heck its hard enough right now, Its all most impossible to live easy with one job...let alone two.. I do think its a good idea in a way..but they need to think about us lower income people..what are we going to do. Seeing as most of USA is lower income now dayz
Reply:I think the whole thing is a huge racket to pad the pockets of George Bush and his cronies. The bad thing is that I thought Bush was the right one for pres. I pretty much hate his guts now.
Reply:If we keep buying gas guzzler SUVs and trucks with a dopey smile on our faces then we deserve to be scr*wed by the rich b*astards. Who can blame them for fleecing the suckers.
Reply:They are not putting it into research. They are giving their executives billion dollar retirement plans. They all should be shot for robbery.
Reply:I don't have a problem with people making money by providing a valuable service. Judging by how many Americans walk to work, I'd say the oil companies are providing a valuable service.
Reply:I think its a recurrence and there is nothing that we can do about it. yes some of the profits will be reinvested but most of it will go to pay some big executive and he will in turn buy a huge gas guzzling Humvee. A viscous cycle. I'm a strong supporter of Bush, and I believe he's right to some degree but I also believe big business is big business and it will continue to be that until the end of time. Lots of oil companies are doing research in other areas of fuel because they know that eventually they will have to move to another consumer required fuel that they can overcharge for.
Reply:President Bush says that it is a good thing because he has his hands in the oil business, and so does his family. Maybe the oil companies are investing money into doing research so they can have their hands on that technology as well.
Reply:everyone complains about GAS prices but no one does anyting about it. when everyone says no and grabs a bike then the prices will come down. Until that time comes, enjoy the capitalistic society that you have been born into that spoils the greedy and robs the poor.
Reply:Gas prices were not even this high in the 80's with all the oil spills, Bush is building that pipeline in Iraq, and getting rich. I am sure he is saying it's good thing.
Reply:i think it is wrong, gas prices are to high, what about all the people on fixed incomes how in the world are they going to make it, plus what about all the people who have kids an work a minimum wage job how are they suppose to keep up? i really think bush should do some thing about this problem an get off his butt. what does he care anyway he has money , what about the little people!
